What’s in a Name?

Let the blogging begin. This site is dedicated to the promotion of a Christian worldview. I’m jumping on the blogging bandwagon, but the name of my blog needs explanation. “Soli Deo Gloria” is the last of five sola statements resulting from the 16th century Reformation. In recovering the message of the gospel and the authority of Scripture, five sola statements serve to sum up the ongoing legacy of the Reformation. Sola is Latin for “alone” or “only.” First, Sola Scriptura means “Scripture alone.” Second, Solus Christus means “Christ alone.” Third, Sola Gratia means “Grace alone.” Fourth, Sola Fide means “Faith alone.” Fifth, Soli Deo Gloria means “Glory to God alone.” The display of God’s glory is the aim in all that He does. Creation declares his glory (Psalm 19:1), He created us for His glory (Isaiah 43:7), and glory will go to God forever (Romans 11:36). This blog, like all of creation, will exist for the magnification of God’s glory in the universe.
